Fairy sized 'TrIcK oR TrEaTeRs'

Only two days to go before the BIG NIGHT! So I was thinking what could I do with our fairy door for Halloween night?  Since the arrival of the fairy sized Halloween decorations the kids have been keeping a very close eye on our fairy doors, hoping to catch a glimpse of some fairy sized visitors! I mean why else would our fairy have decorate her front door if she wasn't expecting some fairy sized Trick or Treaters :),

Here's what I have put together to leave outside our fairy door on Halloween night for the kids to find! I can not Waite to see their little faces :),

I hollowed out a real walnut, in one half of the shell I put some fairy sized candies (mini smarties), tied both halves back together with orange ribbon, To finish it off I made a tiny Bat shaped gift tag and wrote on it  'Trick or Treat'.

In another hollowed out walnut shell I placed some webbing and a tiny black plastic spider, for the other half of the shell I painted the inside with a little pva glue and sprinkled it with glitter (Any excuse for a bit of sparkle!) like the other walnut I tied both halves back together with some orange ribbon and finished it off with a tiny Bat gift tag that says 'Trick or Treat' .

I will leave these outside the fairy door on Halloween night for the kids to find, one walnut being a TrIcK and the other a TrEaT!

If you wanted you could just fill one half of a hollowed out walnut shell with some mini smarties, then make a tiny sign that says 'Please take one HaPpY HaLLoWeEn' stick the sign to a match stick and stick it in among the mini smarties :),

Wishing you all a

Fairy Pumpkin Carraige

HaLLoWeEn is Almost here, YeA!!! We've bought our pumpkins and are ready to carve them over the weekend, All ready for our trick or treaters on Halloween Night!!

Most years we just carve the pumpkins, place a candle inside and place them on our front porch.  Most of the time the candle blows out, by Halloween night they've already started to wilt and are covered with mold.  The kids are always so excited to draw the jack o lantern face and make them, but reality of it is that I end up doing all the carving and hollowing out of the pumpkins and the kids loose interest after 5mins!

This year I decided to try painting and decorating our pumpkin instead, I'm telling you my carving pumpkin days are over :),

Myself and the kids came up with the idea of doing a fairy themed pumpkin this year.  So we decided to try our hands at making a fairy pumpkin carriage.  The kids were beyond excited to do this Jay who's 8yrs old painted the pumpkin, I drew the windows and door and helped a little with the glue and glitter, Molly who is 5yrs old made and coloured in the wheels.  It was great fun! The kids we're so proud of what we had made they even brought it into school to show their teachers.

It was so easy to do here's how we did it:

Here's what you will need:

- One pumpkin

- 1 x Sheet of card paper

- Paint & a Paint Brush

- PVA glue

- Sellotape

- 2 x Cocktail Sticks

- Glitter

- Sissors

- Markers

Draw two circles on the sheet of card paper and cut them out.

Colour both of them in using the markers, we used orange but the colour is up to you. Using the  PVA glue outline the spokes of the wheel.  Sprinkle the glitter over the PVA glue lines, then shake off any excess glitter.  This is what you should be left with, something that resembles a wheel:

Using a black marker draw two windows and a door onto the side of the pumpkin. Then Paint the rest of the pumpkin. Ours took two coats of paint! Just make sure to paint around the outline of the windows and door, Don't paint the stalk of the pumpkin!

Once the paint is dry, outline the windows and door using the PVA glue, Sprinkle the glitter over the PVA glue lines, then shake off any excess glitter.

We glittered the pumpkins stalk, just paint the stalk with PVA                  glue sprinkle it with glitter and shake off the excess.

Soooo Sparkley......

We used some sellotape and cocktail sticks to attach the carriage wheels to the pumpkin.

TaDa!!! A pumpkin Fit for a Fairy.....

Here is our Pumpkin taking pride of place beside our Fairy Door. The kids insisted on buying some white chocolate mice, so that the fairies could change them into footmen(So cute!) Unfortunately Max our dog ate them :),
The kids are convinced that fleur our fairy has taken our Fairy pumpkin carriage for a spin. LOL

HaLlOwEeN - getting into the spirit of the SpOoKy SeAsOn

Halloween is almost upon us!!! So exciting... we've been busy bees decorating the house for Halloween,  Last week we received an email from our friend Cindy.  You may remember Cindy from our St. Patricks day Blog! A Leprechaun named Paddy moved in to their Home just before St. Patricks day last year.

Since his arrival he's been busy settling into and decorating his new home.  Last week Cindy like us decorated her home for Halloween. Later that week tiny tools and a pair of the smallest wellington boots appeared outside Paddy's little green door.  The kid's and Cindy we intrigued! They wondered what the heck he was up to.

A few days later they final got to see what Paddy had been so busy doing. Paddy had decorated his house for Halloween!! With the sweetest little Halloween decorations u ever did see, Check them out!

Cindy's kids are convinced that Paddy must be expecting some Fairy sized Trick or Treaters on all Hallows Eve, WOW :),

I asked Cindy if she wouldn't mind sending Paddy a letter, asking him to remind our Fairy Fleur to decorate her house! Cindy did and Fleur our fairy decorated her house too!  The kids were gob smacked when they happened upon the little decorated fairy door! Too Stinkin Cute....

This is a picture of our fairy's back door:

Check out the "Fairy Pumpkin Carriage" we made!!!!  I will do a separate blog post on how to
make and decorate your very own "Fairy Pumpkin Carriage" later this week so stay tuned :),

Precious Fairy Sized Parcels

We all know how adorable our miniature Fairy letters are! We though this week wouldn't it be adorable to have some fairy sized parcels!!!  You can either make them and leave them at the door for the kids to find or why not pop one in an envelope and send it in the post and brighten up someones day!!!

So simple to make here's all you need:

The tray from a matchbox,
Some String,
A brown paper bag, or I just used a brown envelope,
Sellotape,
A little newspaper,
A piece of paper,
A pen,
A registered post sticker from your local post office.

Here's a few Ideas of what you can send or enclose in your Fairy Sized parcels:

A sugar snap pea - written on a piece of paper 'We're Two Peas in a pod'
A Button - Written on a piece of paper 'You're as cute as a button'
A hard boiled sweet - written on a piece of paper 'Home Sweet Home'/or 'Im sweet on you'
A love heart shape & a miniature key - written on a piece of paper 'You hold the key to my heart'
A Star shape - written on a piece of paper ' Your my lucky Star'/'Wish upon a Star'
A miniature compass - written on a piece of paper 'I'm lost without you'
One Fairy light off of a string of twinkle lights - written on a piece of paper 'You Fairy light up my life'
A miniature Globe - written on a piece of paper 'You are my world'
A candle from a birthday cake - written on a piece of paper 'Happy Birthday - Make a wish'
An eraser - written on a piece of paper 'I'm sorry, I wish I could erase the past and right my wrongs'
A cut out or sticker of a sun - written on a piece of paper 'You are my sunshine'
A spring coil - written on a piece of paper 'You put a spring in my step'

Gosh so many possibilities..............

- Decide what you are going to send, crumple up a bit of the newspaper and line the tray of the matchbox.

- Write your special little note.
- Place your trinket and your little note inside the newspaper.

- wrap using the brown paper, secure folds with sellotape.

- Tie some string around your parcel.

- Cut out the little stickers from your 'Registered Post" stickers,

Now in the tiniest handwriting you can do:

- In the top left hand corner of the parcel write the name of the lucky recipient, directly under that    write the city where they live, followed by the two letter country code.  On the one I left outside our Fairy door for the kids I wrote in the top left had corner "Fairy Door, Fireplace, Dublin IRE"

- In the bottom right hand corner write a lil something sweet like:  A little special something for a little special someone. You can be as creative as you like!

- Then just stick the little stickers you cut off the "Registered Post" stickers to your parcel and that's it.

You can pop it in a standard envelope and post it... What a lovely thing to find in your post!! or leave it outside your fairy door for the kids to find how adorable a parcel all the way from Fairyland :),

DIY - A FAIRY GARDEN

Being summer, the kids and I at the weekend we thinking we would make a fairy garden for our fairy "Fleur" :),

So simple but so sweet and the kids had so much fun collecting a deciding what to put into it.

Here's what we used to make our fairy garden, you can go on a little nature walk with the kids and get them to forage for the pieces to make the fairy garden.

All you need is some flower petals, Live moss ( we found a bunch on an old  tree stump) some pretty stones or sea shells, some decorations (we used sprinkles) and lastly a good pinch of fairy dust to make it magical!!!

Using a glass tumbler, old candle jar or even the end of a clear plastic bottle. Arrange the garden in layers, first place your sea shells to cover the bottom of your container, next pop in the moss, Easy as! To decorate it  place your dried flowers neatly around the moss and sprinkle with sprinkle shapes and fairy dust.  Your Fairy Garden just needs a few drops of water each day to keep it growing....and best to keep it in a sunny place like a window ledge.

Much to the kids surprise the following day our Fairy Fleur left them a little note thanking them for making her such a wonderful fairy garden :), She also left them a tiny closed clam shell, with a tag placed beside it that said "Plant ME" The kids carefully opened the tiny shell and inside was some green moss a blue bean and a sprinkling of gold fairy dust.  Straight away the kids planted the little blue bean in the Fairy Garden. Their imaginations were running wild  thinking about what might grow! Jay was convinced a beanstalk was going to magically appear in the garden )Too cute!!!

On the first morning look what grew in our Fairy Garden....

A wooden stick!

This had the kids baffled! When the skipped down the stairs on day four this is what they found...

A Pixie Pop Had grown, Yes just one!!! gosh didn't our fairy know we had two kids!!! much to their disappointment they had to share.... :),

St. Patrick's Day Fun!

Gosh it really has been a busy few weeks!!! Finally Spring is in full swing!!! Yea,  I'm sure your fairies like ours have been busily blooming & painting  flowers in the garden :0),

Cindy a wonderful lady from America sent us this wonderful photo/email. Thinking it was too sweet not to be shared Cindy has kindly allowed us to share it with you all :

"Hope you had a wonderful St Patrick's Celebration! The leprechaun door was such a magical hit here at our house on St Patrick's morning! My tradition, since I was a child, was to leave your shoes outside your bedroom door the night before St Patrick's Day and the leprechaun would leave little chocolate treats and coins. It's one of my favourite childhood memories from my Grandmother McDevitt. I've passed it on, of course, to my children. We have tons of shamrocks/clovers that grow around our house every year and I would always tell my boys that leprechauns were nearby leaving them for us for good luck. So...now one has moved in with us and it's very exciting! I'm sending along a couple of photos - he lives under the staircase :)"

It's just amazing to think that we were able to add a little extra magic to Cindy's St. Patrick's day Tradition.
We just love to hear all your fairy news, you can get in touch by emailing us at:

Valentines Day

On Valentines morning the kids woke to find this outside our Fairy Door!

A tiny jar of "Fairy Wishes"

I had hoped to pop a few pieces off a dandelion clocks head into the jar for the kids to wish on, so they could then blow them away. Being winter and all I had to opt for a couple of coloured star shaped sprinkles and a pinch of white opalescent glitter.  It worked a treat and the kids are still deciding on what to wish for Bless!

A little Fairy Reminder!

I'm sure everyone will agree getting kids to eat their greens is next to ImPoSsIbLe............

I thought a friendly reminder from our fairy friend Fleur might get the point across in a fun way.

Fleur our fairy  left a tiny box of "Fairy Cabbages" (Spussel Sprouts in the base of a matchbox) sprinkled with a little edible glitter outside our fairy door today.  In her letter to the kids she exclaimed "Although us fairies invented and absolutely adore fairy cakes, it is super important to eat up all your vegetables. So I picked some yummy fairy cabbages from my garden for you to enjoy.  I seen last year that you grew some vegetables and herbs in your garden, I had a little word with the garden fairies this morning and they have promise to make your garden bloom come spring." she also promised to reward them with a fairy cake (aka a mini chocolate chip muffin) if they eat all their vegetables for one whole week!!!

It will be interesting to see if this works :0),

I came across this picture on google images of a broccoli fairy house. I re sized it to the size of a stamp, printed it off and wrote the letter on the reverse side like a postcard.

Unicorn Poop..........

On Wednesday morning, the kids woke up to find a trail of white glitter and what appeared to be tiny horse hoof marks trailed across our fireplace and window sill.  The next day there was a "Fairy Mail" waiting for the kids when they got home from school. In the letter Fleur our fairy apologised for the mess she had made :0), she went on to explain that she was having so much fun playing with her unicorn "Gem" all night that she didn't realise it was morning until she heard the kids running down the stairs.  She had to dash as fairies are very shy and didn't have time to clean up her Unicorns poop!!! How messy is our little Fairy :0),

To do this I designed, printed and cut out a stencil of some horse shoes.  Then I placed it on the fireplace and sieved some icing sugar over it, lifted the stencil very carefully to reveal the tiny horse hooves.  I sprinkles some white glitter, along with some smarties and multi-coloured sprinkles.  I wanted to use white chocolate chips and multicoloured star sprinkles but my local shopping centre was sold out :0(, But this worked just fine!

I've attached a copy of the stencil I made in-case you fancy doing this for your kids!
